My trip to Piura

On the occasion of national holidays, my family decided to travel to Piura, where my father was born. The season was perfect because it was very hot in Piura while in Lima winter made us shiver. My father had the brilliant idea to go in our car, so the trip took 18 hours. Exhausting. During those hours we talked a little bit of everything, it was like reconnecting with family. My brother was very excited to get back to Piura and wander through the extensive fields in the district of 'Salitral'.
We arrived at Piura on a Thursday afternoon, left our bags at my grandmother's house and went to say hello to family and friends we have not seen for years. That night, I went to eat ceviche with some of my cousins and friends. My friend Rodrigo recommended me trying a shrimp soup, a plate I had never tasted. I was a little afraid I wasn't going to like it but after tasting it, I was fascinated with its taste.
The next day, I went with my cousins and friends to visit one of the nearby farms. The owner of the place, Mr. Rivera, invited us to ride horses for a while. Then we helped him to collect coconuts from his farm. In gratitude, Mr. Rivera gave us some coconuts. Then Pepe suggested playing football so we headed to a sport field nearby. That day I sweated too much but not because for the exercise I did, but it was because of Piura's intense heat. Therefore, my friends cut some coconuts and enjoyed a refreshing coconut water. During the afternoon I visited my uncles and aunts and we have a party at my grandmother's house because it was her birthday.
On Saturday, I went swimming with my friends to a beautiful lagoon. I do not remember the name but it was big. We jumped off the bridge that was nearby and did some swimming competitions. We really have a lot of fun. The only bad thing was that Charles cut his foot with something that he tripped on at the bottom of water. By night, me and my friends participated in the festival city. It began with a parade of different local showbiz personalities, continued with the election of 'Miss Salitral' where there were a lot of beautiful women and then a dance concert was held. All the attendees danced, drank and had a lot of fun until dawn.
Sunday was my last day at Piura so my family decided to have breakfast together. The table was served with avocado, bread, papaya juice, tamales, jam, toast, coffee, tea, milk, etc. We ended up full. Taking advantage of the rest of the morning, my family and I went to the city of Catacaos. After two hours of travel, we arrived at a craft fair where I could buy some souvenirs and gifts for family and friends in Lima. I found things like wooden keychains with curious designs, beautiful paintings, inca vases; and products such as honey, carob, banana chips, etc. By the time I finished, I had several bags and packages full of things we had bought. After leaving everything that I bought in the car, we had lunch ceviche, fish cracklings and rice with seafood. Then we went to my grandmother's house to enlist suitcases, not without first going to take a few drinks with friends.

We left Piura at night, it was a sad farewell but I promise myself to return soon, maybe for Christmas.
